Les Misérables: The Story of Jean Valjean (2025)
Jean Valjean
After serving nineteen years of grueling hard labor marked by violence and suffering, Jean Valjean is finally released from prison. Consumed by anger and a profound sense of injustice, he emerges as a hardened man who trusts no one. Upon reaching a small village in Provence, he faces repeated rejection from its residents. In his desperation, he inadvertently finds shelter at the home of Bishop Bienvenu, a humble man living simply with his sister and a single servant. Valjean is taken aback by their genuine kindness, which begins to soften his troubled spirit. However, the shadow of society’s harsh judgment still lingers, leading him to steal the Bishop’s silverware. When the authorities eventually apprehend him, the Bishop’s unexpected forgiveness and gift of the candlesticks ignite the first spark of Valjean’s transformation, setting him on a path to reclaim his humanity and build a new life.
