In 1940 France, Jean Chevalin and his family endure severe poverty after he deserts the army. Believing that certain individuals receive more assistance, Jean chooses to pose as Jewish to gain support from smugglers and escape to the free zone. This deception sets his family on a transformative journey that slowly challenges and breaks down his preconceived biases.
