Sony Pictures Animation and Amazon MGM Studios have officially announced the development of a fifth installment in the beloved Hotel Transylvania series, along with its scheduled theatrical release date.
After a hiatus from the big screen, Count Dracula and his quirky family are making their return in Hotel Transylvania 5: Ghost of the Hotel, set to premiere worldwide on October 8, 2027. This new chapter is a collaborative effort between Sony Pictures Animation and Amazon MGM Studios, continuing their successful partnership from previous films.
**Dracula Encounters a New Supernatural Enigma**
While specific plot details are still under wraps, creators have shared a general overview of the storyline. Building on the events of the earlier movies, Count Dracula has officially retired and entrusted the management of the iconic hotel to his daughter, Mavis. Just as the monster resort seems to enjoy a tranquil period, a series of strange and eerie occurrences begin to surface.
The familiar characters must investigate these mysterious happenings and uncover the truth behind what is being called the hotel's greatest mystery yet. As implied by the title, a ghostly presence is expected to play a pivotal role, threatening to disturb the peaceful existence of Dracula's monster family.
**A Creative Team with Roots in the Franchise Returns**
The upcoming film will be directed by Jennifer Kluska, who co-directed the previous installment, alongside veteran franchise contributor Alan Hawkins. Laurence Jonas will serve as producer, while franchise creator Genndy Tartakovsky and Michelle Murdocca are set to return as executive producers.
Sony Pictures will handle theatrical distribution across North America and select international markets, whereas Amazon MGM Studios will oversee releases in major overseas regions.
**A Highly Successful Animated Franchise for Sony**
Since its debut in 2012, Hotel Transylvania has become one of Sony’s most profitable animated franchises, grossing approximately $355 million globally. The subsequent sequels outperformed expectations, with the second film earning around $475 million worldwide and the third surpassing $530 million.
The fourth film, Hotel Transylvania: Transformania, was an exception due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Its theatrical release was canceled, and distribution rights were sold exclusively to Prime Video. This arrangement ultimately facilitated Amazon MGM Studios’ role as a full production partner for the upcoming fifth installment.
With Hotel Transylvania 5, the studios aim to revive the franchise's theatrical presence and once again captivate family audiences worldwide, continuing the legacy of Dracula and his lovable monster friends for years to come.
