Lionsgate has officially approved a sequel to the box office sensation and appointed Paul Feig to adapt the novel The Housemaid's Secret.
The psychological thriller The Maid has emerged as one of this year’s major box office hits, inspiring Lionsgate to continue the narrative. Following impressive financial success, the studio confirmed that a sequel is underway, drawing its storyline from Freida McFadden’s second novel, The Housemaid's Secret.
Box Office Triumph Spurs Sequel Development
Within its first two and a half weeks, The Maid amassed an impressive $133 million in box office revenue, far surpassing its $35 million production budget. This commercial breakthrough solidified strong audience engagement with Millie’s journey.
The overwhelmingly positive audience response was instrumental in Lionsgate’s decision to rapidly advance the sequel’s production.
Original Creative Team Set to Return
Director Paul Feig will helm the sequel once again, with lead actors Sydney Sweeney reprising her role as Millie, and Michele Morrone returning as Enzo. Production is slated to kick off later this year.
Consistent with the first installment, the film will be produced by Hidden Pictures and Pretty Dangerous Pictures.
