Thomas Jane from The Punisher Joins the Renowned Sci-Fi Universe

In the upcoming fifth and final season of the Paramount+ hit series Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, fans can expect to see two iconic characters from the beloved franchise making a return. Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy and Lieutenant Hikaru Sulu, both staples of the original series, will appear in the concluding episode, which has already wrapped filming.

Casting the Legendary Roles

The esteemed role of Dr. McCoy has been awarded to Thomas Jane, widely recognized for his role in The Punisher as well as various other television projects. The character of Lieutenant Hikaru Sulu will be portrayed by Kai Murakami.

For context, the original Star Trek series (1966–1969) featured DeForest Kelley as Bones McCoy and George Takei as Sulu. In subsequent films presenting alternate versions of these characters, the roles were taken on by Karl Urban and John Cho, respectively.

Show’s Renewal and Studio Announcements

Paramount+ officially confirmed the renewal of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds for a fifth season in June 2025. This upcoming season will mark the series' conclusion and will feature a total of six episodes. This announcement came ahead of the third season’s premiere in July.

The release date for season four remains under wraps. However, it is known that under the leadership of Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount), the USS Enterprise crew will continue their journey through uncharted territories, facing intense emotional trials along the way.
