Aishe, a Uyghur woman shaped by her military father's training, moves to New York City and finds work in the hidden kitchens of Chinatown. There, she crosses paths with Skinner, a young American soldier recently returned from three Middle Eastern deployments. As their romance blossoms, they begin to realize that a brighter future together is within reach—one far different from the solitary lives they once expected.
